La Cité des 4000 at the northern ‘banlieue’ of Paris – La Courneuve, stands out as an icon between the council houses projects that were build in France, most particularly in Paris around 1960s. It was build by the Municipality of Paris in 1964. Hugely enormous four giant buildings were home to mostly Northern African immigrant workers.
Balzac was the main building in the center of “La Cité des 4000 (site of four thousand)”. İt was under the occupation of immigrants demanding better life conditions, was evacuated in a tense atmosphere and demolished in the summer of 2011.
